History of settlements

ABORKI, OBORKI

1930: Aborki (“Oborki”), a khutor (hamlet) located 6.5 km south of the village Loknitsa in Lyelchitsy district. It does not exist now.
An “abora” was the name for an ancient farm building (a large shed) for cows or a fenced-off paddock for livestock on a pasture. It is probable that the settlement was founded on the site of a cattle keeping facility, from which it got its corresponding name. The surrounding swamp has the same name, Aborki.
